CYMPHANI SPEAKS ON GETTING SCAMMED

The Icy Colorado Studio Night: Dreams and Deception

In 2015, on a chilly night in Colorado, memories of an eventful studio session flood my mind. Joined by the talented singer LB and my collaborator Fayro, we were engrossed in creating music late into the night. I had shared a beat with Fayro, titled "Unspoken," but our focus shifted to a remarkable RnB track that left us in awe. It was a surreal feeling, witnessing artists breathe life into my beats, something that hadn't happened before.

Months prior, I had met Fayro, a gifted individual with whom I had spent considerable time working together. He was the first artist who truly brought my beats to life. That night, we stayed up tirelessly producing this exceptional track. However, this studio session wasn't the sole purpose of my visit to Fayro's house.

He had informed me about an opportunity for him to be featured in a magazine and I was very excited for him. I was eager to see Fayro's hard work recognized so I was down to help. We needed to gather funds for the entry fee, so we waited until midnight to withdraw the money from an ATM. Finally, armed with the cash, we met the guy the following day.

Meeting the magazine representative was exhilarating. He exuded enthusiasm, emphasizing the incredible opportunity that lay before us. As the person in charge, he even shared a video showcasing another artist set to be featured. The meeting seemed promising.

However, a week passed, and we realized we hadn't heard back from the guy. Perplexed, we grew suspicious. Though we noticed some Facebook activity from him initially, even that soon ceased. Ultimately, we came to the painful realization that we had fallen victim to a scam, our first encounter with such deception. We were furious but accepted it as a learning experience.

This story serves as a cautionary tale. In the music industry, one encounters countless individuals seeking to exploit others' dreams for financial gain. It's crucial to be mindful of your needs as an artist and avoid frivolous expenditures. People may promise fame, but I assure you, they cannot deliver. Many artists, like us, get lured by enticing opportunities. However, diligent research and scrutiny are essential. Vet the people you collaborate with, ensuring they have a reputable track record. We learned a valuable lesson from this incident, but it certainly wouldn't be our last encounter with deception.

Until next time, stay vigilant and keep chasing your dreams!
